Research from Colliers International has revealed that 87% of businesses that have used the new ‘check, challenge, appeal’ (CCA) system to challenge their business rates bill were dissatisfied with the process. The CCA system, which came into force in April 2017, was introduced to stop speculative appeals and ensure genuine disputes are resolved more quickly. However, the research has indicated that the overly complex process and a lack of guidance about how to use the CCA system is discouraging businesses with strong cases from challenging their business rates bills.
