An increase to the national living wage to £7.83 an hour, increasing of the personal tax allowance to £11,850 and the State Pension by 3% – which equates to a cash increase of £3.65 a week for those in retirement – are just three of the benefits to the tax system that came into force on April 6, 2018. The Treasury has provided a summary of how people will benefit from these various changes. A freeze on fuel duty and an increase to the student loan threshold also apply.
